Political Updates 3 September 2018

This week’s Political Updates covers moves and changes at all levels of government. 

  Government departments

Julia Goodfellow has been appointed Chair of the Advisory Board at the Department of Health and Social Care.

Tim Hollingsworth has been appointed Chief Executive of Sport England. He will replace Jennie Price in November.

John Whittingdale has been appointed as a trustee of the Royal Albert Hall Council.

Brian Johnson has been appointed Chief Executive of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. He will replace Alan Massey on 31 October.

Roger McKinlay has been appointed Challenge Director for Quantum Technologies at UK Research and Innovation. Sam Stacey has been appointed Challenge Director for Transforming Construction.

Tamsyn Barton has been chosen to succeed Alison Evans as Commissioner at the Independent Commission for Aid Impact.

Kirstin Baker has been appointed as as a non-executive director and panel member, and Robin Cohen has been appointed as a panel member of the Competition and Markets Authority.

HS2 Ltd has announced that Paul Griffiths, the Managing Director for Phase Two of the project, is to leave the company.

Alexander Jackman, previously senior public affairs manager at EE and Lucy Noakes, previously at Finsbury PR, have been appointed as special advisers to Secretary of State for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport Jeremy Wright.

House of Commons

Frank Field resigned the Labour Whip on 30 August. He now sits as an Independent.

House of Lords

The Bishop of Derby retired on 31 August.

National Assembly for Wales

Theodore Joloza and Julie May have been reappointed as members of the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales.

European Parliament

This week, the European Parliament is holding committee sessions in Brussels.
