Blogger Outreach: Runway Ribbons
Speedy Spotlight with Nengi Willie-Pepple, author of the fashion blog, Runway Ribbons. Nengi spoke to us about what makes her blog different, being featured as one of the street-style influencers to watch out for and introducing video on her blog.
Why should people read your blog? What makes it different? Runway Ribbons grabs the attention of its readers not only by giving them an in-depth look at fashion and styling, but by touching on lifestyle aspects as well. The topics covered on my blog have been found to be very relatable and are always delivered in a coherent manner. Runway Ribbons also happens to be a very visually stimulating blog. Due to its ease of navigation, its wonderful layout and it’s aesthetically pleasing categories and sections, I believe that a lot of people enjoy reading it. Not only does it hold depth, but it holds light humour with an air of sophistication.
How do you measure the success of your website? The success of my website is mainly measured through it’s performance on my various social media links, as well as viewer interaction within the comment section.
What’s your favourite blog and why? My favourite blog is Shine by Three by Margaret Zhang. It is also a fashion and lifestyle blog like mine, but it has been going on for a much longer time. I enjoy reading Shine by Three because it is humorous and properly worded. She also has very good photography composition which I admire.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog? Originally starting my blog through blogger/blogspot and then having moved over to wordpress, I would advice that those wanting to start a blog should begin on wordpress. It will be more adaptable in the long run and I find that it is much easier to navigate. I would also advise that you find your niche. Find what you’re good at and make that as strong as possible, of course you can dip into other topics that you’d like to touch on, but initially try and keep a steady routine. Along the lines, it will be tough and you might want to quit, but don’t. What usually is the catalyst to all the feelings of giving up, are usually work, juggling education or social comparison. But at the end of the day, it is your blog and you should never compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.
How do you work with marketers and PRs? Although I have been blogging for about two and a half years now, I am just beginning to work with marketers and PRs.
Who do you work with in brand marketing? PRs? SEOs? Anyone else? At the moment, I work with Best British Bloggers, but I intend to work with Reward Style and Cision.
What has been your blogging highlight? 2013 brought quite a few challenges with regards to blogging, but through it all my highlight was getting featured in The Times for an article on The Vogue Festival 2013, as part of the street style influencers to watch.
What will be big in your blogosphere in the coming months? Very soon I intend to introduce video to my blog, because although a picture may paint a thousand words, videos will too. Videos will also help to build my audience, as it will enable my readers put a voice to the images they see on Runway Ribbons.
