Budget 2017 summary, analysis and media reaction
Another Budget has been and gone. This time, the Chancellor announced new funding for the NHS, reform of Universal Credit and the scrapping of Stamp Duty against the backdrop of very gloomy economic figures from the OBR.
While Hammond explicitly sought a balanced approach in yesterday’s Budget, it remains to be seen whether the something-for-everyone approach will deliver satisfactorily. What can be said though, is that he seems to have placated the parts of his party – and the press – which were demanding his resignation if a more positive approach to post-Brexit Britain wasn’t taken.
